Pink Bus Service is a unique initiative of Bihar Government, which is specially designed for women. These buses are CNG based and equipped with modern facilities. These have systems like sanitary pads, vending machines, cameras, panic buttons, GPS trackers, charging points, microphones, and music systems that ensure the safety and convenience of passengers. Presently 8 pink buses are running in Patna, while 4 buses are operating in Muzaffarpur, 2-2 buses each in Darbhanga, Bhagalpur, Purnia and Gaya. In May 2025, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had flagged off 20 pink buses.
In the second phase, this service is expanding rapidly. 22 new buses will be added in Patna, 16 in Muzaffarpur, 13 each in Darbhanga and Gaya, and 8 each in Purnia and Bhagalpur. Soon a total of 100 pink buses will hit the roads across Bihar. That is why the demand for women drivers has also increased, so that the service can be kept completely women-centric.
