NEW DELHI: Twenty Jammu and Kashmir Police officers — including IG Kashmir Vidhi Kumar Birdi, DIG Central Kashmir Pande Rajiv Omprakash and SSP Srinagar Sundeep Chakravarthy — have been awarded the ‘Kendriya Grihmantri Dakshata Padak’ for avenging the Pahalgam terror attack, news agency PTI reported.

The Union home ministry announced on Friday that 1,466 police personnel from different states, union territories, and central organisations have been selected for the ‘Kendriya Grihmantri Dakshata Padak’ for 2025.
According to an official statement, the medals are given to recognise work in four areas — special operations, investigation, intelligence, and forensic science — and to boost the morale of officials.Of the total personnel selected for the medal, 1,364 are honoured for their extraordinary performance in the field of special operations, 93 in the field of investigation and nine in the field of forensic science.The medal was instituted on February 1, 2024. It is given to members of state and union territory police, Central Armed Police Forces, Central Police Organisations, intelligence units, special branches, and forensic departments across the country.The medal is announced every year on October 31, the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.India launched Operation Sindoor in May this year after the Pahalgam terror attack. The armed forces struck terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir through precision strikes. India also hit multiple Pakistani airbases after Islamabad attempted an escalation.
