Peeved at ill-treatment, Congress skips Farooq’s meet

SRINAGAR: Congress skipped alliance MLAs’ meeting convened by National Conference (NC) chief Farooq Abdullah in Srinagar Wednesday to discuss key legislative issues on the eve of the J&K assembly session.“The way NC has treated us has shaken our trust in the alliance. After a long meeting today, we have written to the party high for guidance… We are also unhappy about ‘unsafe’ Rajya Sabha seat allocation,” Congress’ J&K unit chief Tariq Ahmad Karra said.He didn’t clarify whether Congress will participate in the Oct 24 Rajya Sabha elections for four seats in J&K assembly — the first since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.Congress had sought a safe seat, but NC pushed it to an unsafe “fourth” seat, prompting the party to withdraw from the Rajya Sabha contest as it feared defeat in J&K would give BJP advantage at the national level, especially when Bihar polls are round the corner.
